COST / MUMBAI

HDPE Membrane Waterproofing Cost in Mumbai

Pre-applied HDPE is quoted per square foot of raft and wall area. It is comparatively economical for what it does, because it goes in before the pour — the expensive scenario is discovering you needed it after the basement is built.

Our published rate

To be confirmed

We have chosen not to publish a figure we cannot stand behind for your specific building. What follows is more useful anyway: what actually moves the number, and how to compare two quotations honestly.

COST DRIVERS

What actually moves the number

In rough order of how much they typically matter.

Area of raft and retaining walls
Measured as developed surface, including the projection left for the wall lap.
Membrane thickness
1.2 mm and 2.0 mm grades differ in price and in puncture resistance.
Detailing accessories
Pile heads, starter bars and service penetrations each need system-specific collars and tape.
Protection layer
Screed or board before steel fixing, which is what keeps the membrane intact to the pour.
Programme coordination
The pre-pour window is fixed, and mobilising to it may involve standby time.
SCOPE

What a quotation should and should not include

Normally included

  • Blinding preparation walkover
  • HDPE membrane laid coated-face up
  • Lap sealing with the system tape
  • Pile head and penetration detailing
  • Pre-pour walkover and puncture repair
  • Photographic record

Normally excluded

  • PCC blinding
  • Protection screed unless stated
  • Water stops at construction joints
  • Standby time from programme delays outside our control
RED FLAGS

Warning signs in a cheap quotation

None of these prove bad faith. All of them mean the two quotations in front of you are not for the same work.

  • Generic tape substituted for the system's own
  • No pre-pour walkover in the method
  • Membrane laid the wrong way up
  • No photographic record before burial
  • No water stops quoted alongside
THE WORK ITSELF

What hdpe membrane waterproofing involves

HDPE membrane waterproofing uses a high-density polyethylene sheet, generally pre-applied below rafts and against retaining walls before concrete is poured. The key property is that fresh concrete bonds mechanically to the membrane's coated face, so water cannot track laterally between barrier and structure — the failure mode that defeats most loose-laid below-grade systems.

QUESTIONS

Cost — questions we get asked

Why will you not publish a rate for this?

Because a rate quoted without seeing the building is either meaningless or misleading. The condition of the existing structure changes the number more than anything else, and it cannot be assessed over the phone. We publish what drives the cost instead, so you can interrogate any quotation — including ours.

What makes two quotations for the same job differ so much?

Almost always the invisible work. Measured as developed surface, including the projection left for the wall lap. Beyond that, the items most often trimmed are preparation, curing time and testing — none of which are visible at handover and all of which decide whether the system lasts.

What should I check before accepting a quotation?

That it states thickness, curing period, junction and penetration detailing, and what testing is carried out before anything is covered. A quotation that omits all four is not comparable to one that states them, whatever the headline rate says.

Is the site inspection chargeable?

No. The inspection and the itemised scope that follows are free and carry no obligation. You are free to take that scope to any contractor.

Get an itemised quotation you can actually compare

An engineer visits, establishes the real condition, and gives you a rate-wise scope. A housing society committee can put it line by line to a general body meeting.
