COST / MUMBAI

China Mosaic Waterproofing Cost in Mumbai

China mosaic is a finish laid over a completed waterproofing layer, so it is priced as a finishing item per square foot. Anyone quoting it as a standalone waterproofing solution is describing the wrong thing — the joints between pieces are not a barrier.

Our published rate

To be confirmed

We have chosen not to publish a figure we cannot stand behind for your specific building. What follows is more useful anyway: what actually moves the number, and how to compare two quotations honestly.

COST DRIVERS

What actually moves the number

In rough order of how much they typically matter.

Bedding mortar thickness
A full bed at 15-20 mm uses considerably more material than a thin one, and thin bedding is why pieces come loose.
Piece size and laying pattern
Smaller pieces and tighter patterns take substantially more labour per square foot.
Substrate condition
Laying over sound cured coba is straightforward; over an uneven surface it needs levelling first.
Area and access
Large open terraces are more efficient per square foot than broken-up areas with obstructions.
SCOPE

What a quotation should and should not include

Normally included

  • Base preparation and wetting
  • Waterproofed bedding mortar
  • Laying and jointing of mosaic pieces
  • Joint filling and cleaning
  • Curing

Normally excluded

  • The waterproofing layer beneath
  • Slope correction
  • Parapet and outlet treatment
RED FLAGS

Warning signs in a cheap quotation

None of these prove bad faith. All of them mean the two quotations in front of you are not for the same work.

  • China mosaic sold as the waterproofing itself
  • Spot bedding rather than a full bed
  • No ponding test on the layer beneath before covering it
THE WORK ITSELF

What china mosaic waterproofing involves

China mosaic is a finish of broken glazed ceramic tile pieces set in waterproofed cement mortar over a terrace. Its white, reflective surface cuts heat gain into the slab, and its hard glazed face protects the waterproofing beneath from UV and foot traffic. It is normally laid over brick bat coba rather than used as a standalone barrier.

QUESTIONS

Cost — questions we get asked

Why will you not publish a rate for this?

Because a rate quoted without seeing the building is either meaningless or misleading. The condition of the existing structure changes the number more than anything else, and it cannot be assessed over the phone. We publish what drives the cost instead, so you can interrogate any quotation — including ours.

What makes two quotations for the same job differ so much?

Almost always the invisible work. A full bed at 15-20 mm uses considerably more material than a thin one, and thin bedding is why pieces come loose. Beyond that, the items most often trimmed are preparation, curing time and testing — none of which are visible at handover and all of which decide whether the system lasts.

What should I check before accepting a quotation?

That it states thickness, curing period, junction and penetration detailing, and what testing is carried out before anything is covered. A quotation that omits all four is not comparable to one that states them, whatever the headline rate says.

Is the site inspection chargeable?

No. The inspection and the itemised scope that follows are free and carry no obligation. You are free to take that scope to any contractor.

An engineer visits, establishes the real condition, and gives you a rate-wise scope. A housing society committee can put it line by line to a general body meeting.
