Solvent Based Coating in Mumbai

SURFACE PREPARATION

Almost every failure starts here

Preparation produces nothing visible, costs real money, and is the first thing removed from a cheap quotation. It is also what decides whether the system lasts.

The substrate is mechanically prepared and must be genuinely dry — solvent-based systems are intolerant of moisture. Laitance, oil and old coatings are removed. Ventilation arrangements and permits are confirmed before any material is opened.

How we apply solvent based coating

Step by step, with the specifications each stage is held to.

  1. 01

    Confirm ventilation and permits first

    Solvent-based application requires proper ventilation, appropriate PPE and, in industrial settings, a permit. This is established before mobilisation, not on the day.

  2. 02

    Prepare mechanically and confirm dryness

    Ground or blasted to an open profile, with substrate moisture measured against the manufacturer's limit.

  3. 03

    Prime

    Compatible primer applied to the stated coverage.

  4. 04

    Apply to the specified DFT

    Applied in the specified number of coats to 0.2–0.5 mm, with recoat intervals respected.

  5. 05

    Ventilate through the cure

    Ventilation is maintained throughout curing, not just during application, since solvent continues to release as the film hardens.

How do I know the work was done properly?

Ask for evidence against these checkpoints: substrate moisture measured against the manufacturer's stated limit; forced ventilation confirmed operational before any container is opened; permit-to-work and respiratory ppe verified for confined or industrial areas; dry film thickness gauged across the area; clearance period agreed in writing before reoccupation of the space. A contractor who cannot produce them is asking you to take execution quality on trust, on work that will be buried under a finish and impossible to inspect afterwards.

How long does solvent based coating last?

Exposure-specific. We would rather set that expectation honestly than quote a headline number, because the substrate condition and the standard of application matter more to the outcome than the product's own datasheet figure.

What does solvent based coating cost in Mumbai?

Cost depends on area, substrate condition, access, and how much preparation or structural repair is needed before the system can go on. We do not publish a rate per square foot, because a number quoted without seeing the building is either meaningless or misleading. The site inspection is free and produces an itemised scope you can compare against any other quotation.

Which standards apply to solvent based coating?

The relevant Indian Standards for this work are IS 3067. These cover the design, preparatory work and material requirements. Where a project specification names a different or additional standard, we work to the specification.
